Prince Room

Curry noodles aka laksa (to some individuals) was always something I look forward to whenever I am back in Malaysia. Sadly to say, I took laksa for granted during my early teen years and I find myself constantly craving for a warm, spicy bowl of curry broth when I pick up curry scents in restaurants.

Alas, I have found a good place to satisfy my cravings in Adelaide. Although it might not be 100% Malaysian, it is still pretty darn good;)

The sambal~ added to currys for that extra spicy kick :)

Huge bowl with generous amounts of fish cakes and seafood.

We had some veges too! :)

Fried ice cream~ I like how the chef put effort into decorating the plate :) Nom nom nom^^

Photo mashup!

Went for lunch at this really French restaurant at Burnside. Great atmosphere and delicious food:)

Latte~

French flag!

Quiche Lorraine with ham and cheese~ best quiche I have ever eaten so far. It was quite expensive for a quiche but it was goooood :)

Macarons from the Marquis in Chinatown...

Chinese New Year dinner at Kowloon. Mud crab, courtesy of the boy:)

Bugs from Starhouse...delicious :DD

Indian Temptations

Much apologies for the super duper late blogposts. I am currently adapting to my new residential environment and am still lacking some internet services up there. Nevertheless, I shall attempt to blog as much as I can when I do obtain internet access:)

This is a truely authentic Indian restaurant, the cooks serve up finger licking good curry dishes and they are certainly not skimping on the amount of spices used. Highly recommended for its economical pricing and good quality food. Opens up until 3am so do head over if you want something to bite after a long, stressful day:)

Garlic naan~ yummmm

I can't recall what was this dish already but whatever it was, it was definitely good;)

Lamb korma~ tender pieces of lamb meat which can be easily separated from the bone. An ideal dish for someone who can't be bothered fiddling with bones like yours truly xD

Fish curry~ probably one of the most expensive curries I have had so far but it was worth every penny spent! Another highly approved dish :)

This particular restaurant reminds me of a few "mamak" shops back home in Malaysia. Late night crowd, delicious aromas waffling around the place and buzzing with bypassing cars :)

Fast food on the go

Have temporarily relocated to my sister's place for the remaining of my holidays and guess who I've got for my kitchen experiments?? >:) Hahaha. So far, I have "created" some interesting dishes to accommodate my siblings requirements hehe.

All in all, most of the dishes can be prepared withing 30 minutes provided that efficiency and speed is applied :p I strongly believe that fast food doesn't necessarily mean unhealthy.

Dish 1: Wanton mee with pork dumplings

Tofu cubes to add variety to the dish:)

Longevity egg noodles~ it was challenging trying to pick out these noodle strands as they can really endure all my pulling -.-

Preparing the wanton mee sauce mixture~ oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, sugar, tamarind sauce, sugar, pepper, shallot oil. Proportion varies depending on your liking. However, the quantity of the dark soy sauce must be at least 3 times more than the other sauces:)

Herbal chicken soup with homemade pork dumplings! Didn't make enough soup as there was not much chicken bones left in the freezer :p

Tadaaa~~ Marinated mince pork with ginger, garlic, chilli, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, pepper. Blanched veges in boiling water and tossed noodles in sauce mixture:)

Dish 2: Mushroom and chicken quiche

Had just one piece of puff pastry left in the fridge so I had to cut the remaining dried-out pastry pieces into strips and arrange them into a criss cross method:) Brushed with egg wash (egg yolk and about a tablespoon of milk).

Fried about half of a diced onion, added the chicken bits (marinated in soy sauce, pepper and english mustard) before adding the mushroom slices. Covered with egg and milk mixture.

Uneven browning on the top as egg wash wasn't evenly spread. Must always remember to be meticulous with egg washes if you want to impress the guests ;)

Dish 3: Tomato base mussel pasta

Fried diced onions before adding the mushroom slices. Allow to caramelize before adding the tomato paste (infused with some Italian herbs). Toss in the broccoli pieces and simmer until broccoli is slightly soft. Add washed and cleaned mussels. Allow to cook until the mussels open up (let those juices flow!!!) before casting in the pasta :D

Dish 4: Roti canai with curry chicken and blanched vege

Frozen roti canai! Easily accessible and doesn't taste that bad. Caution, very filling. I would recommend 1 piece if you're a small eater and maximum 3 pieces if you have a huge appetite:p

My blanched vege in salt water and curry chicken with cubed potatoes~ Did not use any curry paste but instead, used curry powder and turmeric. Fried with diced onions and seasoned with salt, pepper and a bit of sugar:)

Well balanced meals served!! Bon appetit!

Some Christmas cheer to end the year!

Have recently attended a few Christmas gatherings with lovely company and I think this has to be one of my longest blog posts in 2011!

Sister's place

Red wine to start the meal!

Cheesy pancetta pasta~

Simple salad with balsamic dressing~

Turkey~ the leftovers were still flavourful even after a few days in the fridge.

Friend's place

Capsicum, cucumber and carrot sticks with crackers and a cheesy dip as appetizers~

Potato and pork dumpling~ Potato dumpling wasn't too bad but it probably would be better with some soy sauce:)

Beef~ I love the marinade! No idea what was in it but I think some oil, herbs and garlic? Really nice :D

Honey soy chicken~ Yummy:D

Truffles and shortbread cookies~ We also had tiramisu, fruitcake and an ice-cream cake, mango pudding and fruit punch for dessert. So much food that we could hardly finish! xD

Ex-collegian's place

The final place to complete my Christmas weekend:)

My homemade chilli paste/ sauce~ didn't make it too spicy :) Better than someone's chilli paste, indeed hahahaha ;D

Beehoon noodles~

Vegetarian dhal~

Stewed pork belly and anchovy fried rice~

Tofu sumbat!! Wasn't really as good as I have liked it to be (had it in primary school, a really really long time ago...could hardly remember how it tasted like:/). Overall, everyone liked it but I'm not sure if the guests are being nice -.-'

Cookies~ not bad :)

Mango pudding~ the finale of almost every party. Have a joyous New Year and best of luck with preparing your new year's resolution list. I know what's mine ;)
