Bon Chicken & Beer, Glen Waverley AND a mobile upload

Fried chicken and fridays are synonymous to a good time regardless of whether you're having a bad day or not. When a close friend is back after a long service in the rural areas of Victoria, we decided that a catch up is much needed.

I have not been to many Korean fried chicken outlets before (well, with the exception of KFC) and so, have nothing to compare this place to. Buuuuut, my dear friend here is a beer and fried chicken expect so my review would be 80% based on his interpretation.

"Service is better than a few other places albeit slightly tricky to understand what some staff members are saying due to their accent. Fried chicken is not too bad although the sweet chilli version turned out to be pretty spicy!" Unlimited refills on the side dishes are always a bonus.

And nowwwww, because it's the last day of June, here are some snippets of what I have been up to this month!

Caught up with a friend and realized that aside from coffee or dessert shops, there are not many places that are easy to carry out conversations - any suggestions?

I still think spectacles are an amazing accessory if you have just got out of bed (like me haha!).

Ice cream on a cold day - why not?

The last of my green tea snacks from Japan. How I miss that country :(

Recently started using Shiseido's Ultimune and am loving it despite it being a costly investment. I can feel a significant difference to my complexion and would highly recommend this to anyone with skin concerns like me.

Why are Japanese instant noodles so expensive and can anyone suggest where else I can get these at affordable prices?

Got to love sponsored work dinners.

On days where I am feeling flat, I like a little pick me up to cheer me up. Passionfruit donut from a petrol station that brightened up my day:)

Gelato for charity - what a brilliant idea.

A shirt dress that has a nice concept to it but the quality is questionable. When that happens, take a selfie so that you can remember it:p

I spent most of my childhood following my dad to the markets and still get hyped going to the markets but this time round, I get snack hehe.

Bought myself a new quilt cover because I needed to wash my current one and didn't like the idea of my quilt being bare. This one is from Sheridan and feels soooo good. Even better now that it's on promotion!

Bought a Nike windbreaker jacket from the DFO to run outdoors in winter!

Cobalt blue is my new favourite colour!

Tim tam never stops coming up with new flavours do they? I didn't mind these ones although the toffee layer might be a bit too sweet for some.

Desperate for cheesecake but didn't want to gorge up a fortune for a slice and so, headed to Coles to get a frozen version. Probably better to thaw it first before digging in. Sara Lee never disappoints me though.

Am on a healthy kick at the moment and decided to grab some nuts for snacking purposes.

A packet of Aussie shaped animal cookies. This one was the cutest.

Free bread from doing my grocery errands. Finally dawned on me why I love bread so much - it was something I look forward to as a child in a coffee shop (toasted bread with kaya is still awesome) and reminded me of the days when I stayed with my grandpa in Ipoh and. Bread was also my high school lunch staple.

Baked a Christmasy carrot cake and lashed it with cream cheese icing. Yummeh!

Mastered the art of running with earphones at last.

Mobile uploads: Food ventures in May

Last day of May and what better way to be thankful for the month that had just passed than a blog post dedicated to all the exciting things that happened this month! Lots of random snapshots and wandering thoughts included.

Being healthy is the new fad and I forecast a lot of food companies jumping on the bandwagon. Didn't mind Red Rock Deli's sweet potato chips - less salt included.

Was a bit skeptical about this one but loved how they managed to pull off this treat ala Italian style.

So...I did purchase a couple of chips from Red Rock Deli's special reserve range. Not too keen on the saffron flavoured one but the wagyu beef and wasabi cream was spot on. Brought back memories of when I was having a wagyu fest with the sister:)

On that day, I have learnt two things - footy and how to take panoramic shots haha!

Kyoto's cinnamon biscuits. I have about 30% of Japanese snacks left from my trip and gosh, how I wished I had bought more:(

If you want a taste of Japanese kit kats, there is an Asian grocer that stocks a few different types of this snack. Only thing is I paid $8 for that box and so, be prepared to fork out more than double if you are really keen.

Le petit gateau - a cake shop that I can't frequent as much because it only operates on weekdays:( Had to make a special trip to the city before I head to work just to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Chokolait's mudcake - there are days where I crave for rich chocolate desserts. Sadly, at the expense of getting pimples or breakouts:/ Oh wells, a little spot every now and then won't hurt anyone:)

I have been dedicating my weekends to catching up on a few educational magazines. With a good cup of coffee on hand.

Finally got around to getting this YSL lip tint. Not the cheapest one but it does make your lips feel great with each use - jojoba oil, almond kernel oil and a couple others that I can't remember. Mine is mon cherie because I wanted a brighter pop of colour on my otherwise pale lips.

Coffee in Burwood shopping centre - free cinnamon coated doughnut with each cup of coffee. Win.

After a few months of religiously eating a blended smoothie consisting of pears, avocados, spinach and cucumber slices, I can see an improvement in my complexion. Am also using the Clarisonic face brush and staying away from heat-y types of food that can make my skin flare up such as chocolate, excessive sugar and spicy food.

Dined with a friend in Clayton on a rainy and cold day - If only there was a Korean fried chicken shop nearby:/

McDonalds around the globe

I have been wanting to blog about my visit to McDonalds for the longest time and finally managed to find time to do so today..noting that I am currently in the mood for junk food aka comfort food on a wet and cold night :p

Truth to be told, I was a chubby kid back in my adolescent years and once I got into college, I started paying attention to what I eat and slowly cut back on all the unhealthy food. Eventually, I lost weight but I have lost the joys from eating. Yes, I was that girl who would jump on the weighing scale a few times a day just to check my weight.

That was an unhealthy era for me and I can't bring myself to do that anymore. These days, I am pretty consistent with what I eat although there are times I can't be bothered to feed myself (rarely!). This will be an unhealthy blog post but remember, it's boring to follow a routine all the time and as long as you are eating consistently well on the other days, you're allowed a cheat day;)

EUROPE

Barcelona ~ we did not see any limited edition Spanish burgers whilst were there. However, we did note that the buns are different.

Paris ~ Ah the city of love...no lovey dovey treats noted and again, the buns were shaped differently.

Krakow ~ so my mcflurry addition still stays with me despite ageing. From memory, they were breakfast cereal versions. Still the same soft serve vanilla ice cream used:P

ASIA

During my recent trip to Japan and Hong Kong, I made a conscious effort to read the menu and scout for hidden gems.

Hong Kong ~ we have chicken boxes here that includes chicken nuggets, mini chicken drumsticks and chicken wings. Little chicken drumsticks reminded me a little of KFC's version.

Now the real reason I actually visited McDonalds in Hong Kong... taro soft serve!! I love my tubers and this was no exception. Not yam-my textured at all and has a very subtle hint of taro. The sister aka non-taro-fan didn't mind it at all:) We weren't too hungry that day else would have gotten the sundae too!

In terms of pricing, there was little variation. Trust McDonalds to not give your wallet a heart attack.

This picture was taken back in 2013 and yes, it is still available in Hong Kong. Taro pies for taro fanatics. Verdict? Piping hot and oozing with taro goodness.

Japan ~ the sister and I were starving on a cold night in Kyoto and could not be bothered to venture too far out into the unknown..which led us to our trusty friend.

Teriyaki beef burger ~

Ebi burger ~ silly me only remembered ebi meant prawn after I bit into it. Reminded me of a fish burger but a prawn version, of course. Crispy on the outside and plenty of ebi bits in the patty.

Shake shake chicken ~ reminded me of the famous Taiwanese hot star's fried chicken. Glorified with cheddar cheese. Found this a little too salty to my liking:/

Hokkaido is known for their dairy and boy was I excited to be able to get a little snippet of the region during my trip. In McDonalds, that is. Extremely creamy milk custard wrapped in perfectly cooked puff pastry. Oh so divine and a must try in Japan:)

Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures of McDonalds from Malaysia and Australia to share:( Such as shame as I must have visited these outlets more than 10 times throughout my life. I will endeavour to do so the next time I pop by and update this page:)
